Underwater Wonders of New Zealand

Embraced by three oceans of widely varying temperaments, New Zealand belongs to the sea. In the shallow coastal waters just off the beach, in the chilly waters of the fiords and in the deeper, bluer waters offshore there is another country, an isolated underwater world of shifting light and dazzling colours where a unique blend of marine conditions has resulted in an astonishing diversity of life.
For most of us it might as well be a different planet, an alien place we will never see for ourselves. But through Darryl Torckler's breathtaking photography and Gillian Torckler's evocative words we are able to explore this extraordinary realm. They have captured it all, from the tiny, brilliantly hued clown nudibranch slowly making its way across a dense garden of invertebrates, through the snakestar weaving its way around the branches of a black coral tree, to the glittering marlin cruising offshore waters.
This book offers a privileged glimpse into the natural beauty and drama of New Zealand's marine environment, a kaleidoscope of shapes and textures never before seen with such clarity. inside (Dust jacket)

Beached As - Our New Zealand Beaches - Then and now

This book was donated.

In 2011 children in E area at Favona School and their teacher's took part in the sustainable coastline programme and helped to clean up the coasline on Rangitoto Island. Whaea Bridget went with them and took photos. She entered the photos in a competition and got Highly Commended and won this book for the school.
