BOOK WEEK - Term Two - Visiting Author - Maria Gill on the 23rd June 2014 and Darryl Torckler on 24th June 2015

Maria Gill


Favona Primary School students and teachers had the privilege of having Maria Gill come and visit on the 23rd June 2014 through 'Writers in Schools' - New Zealand Book Council.

Maria is an author. She presented a slideshow of her story and how she got into writing. She read a few stories to student 'The call of the Kokako' and 'The last of the Maui's dolphin. The students really enjoyed interacting with her props as she read the stories.






Darryl Torckler

Favona Primary School students and teachers had the privilege of having Darryl Torckler come and visit on the 24th June 2015 through 'Writers in Schools'  -- New Zealand Book Council.

Darryl is an underwater photographer and came to talk to students about his ideas for his images in books which he photographed and how important reading was. He showed students his underwater camera, which the students really enjoyed. His Powerpoint presentation was in awe of the students. Junior students enjoyed participating with the felt board by putting sea life onto it.

Favona Primary School students and teachers had the privilege of having Melinda Szymanik come and visit on the 1st July 2013 through 'Writers in Schools'  -- New Zealand Book Council.
 

Melinda talked to students about her ideas for the books she wrote and shared basic writing tips. Melinda also shared some of her stories she wrote to the students.

PROMOTION -- Term Two -- NZ BOOK COUNCIL -- 'WRITERS IN SCHOOLS' Author Visit -- KYLE MEWBURN-- 11th June 2013

Favona Primary School students and teachers had the privilege of having Kyle Mewburn come and visit on the 11th June 2013 through 'Writers in Schools'  -- New Zealand Book Council.

Favona students were engaged with Kyle 's sessions. He talked about his ideas for the books he wrote and shared some of his stories he wrote to the students. The teachers also thoroughly enjoyed Kyle's visit.

Kyle's favourite book  'The Phantom in the Tollbooth' by Norton Juster which he shared with the students and teachers. He shared how a teacher gave this book to him when he was at school.

Visiting author Chris Gurney spoke to Favona children in about writing books on Monday 18th June 2012.

Children just loved acting out the scenes in their props while she read her books to the audience.

Children just love the Kiwi Corkers Series.
